The 14th annual C.A.T. Walk & Fun Run attracted 1,000 walkers and runners on the 4th of July in downtown Hillsboro. The Tuality Healthcare Foundation organized event serves as a prelude to the annual Hillsboro Rotary Club 4th of July parade and took place in perfect weather with blue skies and temperatures in the 70s.

The 2014 event raised more than $71,000 for cancer programs and services, pushing the amount the event has raised since its inception to $760,000. Jonathan Sipling, 37, of Portland, finished the 5K with the fastest men’s time of 17 minutes, 24 seconds. Kelly Chang, 40, of Portland, was the fastest woman and women’s Masters Division runner at 19 minutes, 38 seconds. Peter Carleson, 47, of Hillsboro, was the fastest men’s Master Division finisher in a time of 17 minutes, 28 seconds.

In addition to the timed 5K walk and fun run, the annual event also included a Kids’ Dash and a Kids’ Zone featuring a bounce house and carnival games. An adjoining health fair showcased some of the event’s corporate sponsors and highlighted many of the quality services provided at Tuality Healthcare.

Tuality Healthcare Foundation director Cece Clitheroe thanked everyone for attending and participating. “This event is Tuality Healthcare’s largest fundraiser for cancer treatment and awareness programs for our community,” she said. “A big thank you goes out to all of the participants, volunteers, and sponsors who made this event possible, and to all of the cancer survivors who joined us and served as an inspiration and beacon of hope to those currently fighting this terrible disease.”

Clitheroe also had praise for the event’s major sponsor, Genentech, as well as other sponsors Columbia Bank, Frontier Communications, Metro West Ambulance, Tuality/OHSU Cancer Center, and Whole Foods.
